But it was HIS choice, and no one outside of Andre can comprehend WHY he did it when he did it. Given that I cannot look inside his head, I can only take his word for it...so, like a good lemming, I will buy his book and try to find out. I always go back to "how is he now" and find him to be generous and honest. No matter what meth did or did not do, Andre had to hit the ball over the net and endure the tough matches...it is like the steriod issue in baseball, say what you want, but Barry Bonds had the fastest bat before steriods and the fastest after...he still had to hit the ball. Love tennis...especially women's tennis...it is much more like the pure sport I grew up playing...not all power and equipment. He had nothing to gain and could have accomplished the emotional release by telling his wife and leaving it at that. He has been out of the spotlight for a bit, so perhaps he missed it...and now, he sure has the bright lights focused right on him, seated at the signing table, selling books. Coincidence? A three month suspension may have hurt him financially but he still could have revived his career despite that. Meth isn't performance enhancing so I don't think Safin is justified in saying that, but he likes being Mr. Outspoken. I'm glad that Andre' came forward about it even though he'll make millions selling his new book. I've read excerpts from SI and it's a good read. Andre' is a talented writer and he certainly did a lot for the sport including inspiring me to get out there and play a lot. Steroids is a different issue being a banned and harmful performance enhancer. True Bonds had to swing a bat and Clemens had to throw a baseball all the same but it's still cheating when other players were playing fair and they were getting an unfair advantage.
